The Humanitarian Dialogue Foundation (HDF), in partnership with the European Institute for Dialogue and Development (EIDE), successfully co-hosted a pivotal seminar in Baghdad titled “The Future of the Iraqi Constitution: Amendments and Aspirations.”
Held at the Prime Minister’s Guest House, this seminar marked the second event in EIDE’s inaugural round of high-level discussions in Iraq. It brought together senior advisors from the Iraqi Council of Representatives, constitutional law experts, political analysts, and European specialists in constitutional reform.
The dialogue focused on the historical and legal foundations of Iraq’s 2005 constitution, emphasizing the inclusive efforts that shaped its initial drafting. Participants explored pathways for future amendments, addressing current political challenges, structural imbalances, and the need for stronger protections of minority rights.
European experts offered comparative insights from various constitutional models across Europe, enriching the debate with examples of successful reform in post-conflict societies. Their presence underscored the value of international cooperation and knowledge exchange in the reform process.
This event reaffirmed HDF’s dedication to promoting inclusive dialogue and its commitment to supporting democratic institutions in Iraq through constructive engagement and strategic partnerships.
